Seville Cathedral, Seville Spain
Also known as Catedral de Santa María de la Sede / Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See is the cathedral of the city of Seville in Andalucia. It is claimed by some to be the largest Gothic cathedral and the fourth largest Christian church in the world.

Construction of the cathedral began in 1402 and continued into the 16th century. Its central nave rises to a height of 42 metres.

The interior, with the longest nave in Spain, is lavishly decorated, with a large quantity of gold evident. In the main body of the cathedral only the great boxlike structure of the choir stands out, filling the central portion of the nave. It is also dominated by a vast Gothic retablo of carved scenes from the life of Christ. The altarpiece was the lifetime work of a single craftsman, Pierre Dancart.

The builders used some columns and elements from the mosque, and most famously the Giralda, was converted into a bell tower. The Giralda is the city's most famous symbol.

This cathedral was built to demonstrate Seville's wealth, as it had become a major trading center in the years after the Reconquista. During the planning of the cathedral's construction, a member of the chapter was recorded to have commented "we shall have a church [so great and] of such a kind that those who see it built will think we were mad."

Alcázar of Seville / Royal Alcazars of Seville
A royal palace in Seville, Spain. Originally a Moorish fort, the Alcázar. The Almohades were the first to build a palace, which was called Al-Muwarak, on the site of the modern day Alcázar. The palace is one of the best remaining examples of mudéjar architecture. Subsequent monarchs have added their own additions to the Alcázar. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as the official Seville residence and are administered by the Patrimonio Nacional.

Archivo de Indias / General Archive of the Indies
The document repository, housed in Seville in the ancient merchants' exchange, the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes, of extremely valuable archival documents illustrating the history of the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines. The General Archive of the Indies is housed in a structure designed by Juan de Herrera, an unusually serene and Italianate Spanish example of Renaissance architecture. The building and its contents were registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Doñana National Park
Also called Coto de Doñana, is a national park and wildlife refuge in southwestern Spain.

L ocated in Andalusia, in the provinces of Huelva and Seville, and covers 543 km², of which 135 km² are a protected area. The park is an area of marsh, shallow streams, and sand dunes in Las Marismas, the Guadalquivir River Delta region where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The original area was established in 1963 when the World Wildlife Fund joined with the Spanish government and purchased a section of marshes to protect it from the constant threat to drain the marshes, use the river water to boost agricultural production by irrigating land along the coast, and to expand tourist facilities.

The park, which has a biodiversity that is unique in Europe, contains a great variety of ecosystems and shelters wildlife including thousands of European and African migratory birds, fallow deer, Spanish red deer, wild boar, European badger, Egyptian mongoose, and endangered species such as the Spanish Imperial Eagle and Iberian Lynx. Camel were seen there as recently as the 1970s.
